Happy hour...what an integral piece to the memories of my days at New

and
> the Alabama Slammers - Neil would never forgive me. We all stood outside,

buzzing

> "Pigs". Thanks for the memories! Hope this finds you doing well.

Subject: Late 70's Memories
From: R. Ryan

We had 2 little kids who had often eaten lunch with us at P&G's. We'd been
in town at least seven years when one Friday night we decided to meet for
dinner at 6 p.m. at P&G's.. My husband was picking up our oldest daughter
from a practice of some kind and I had been held up elsewhere with the
younger one. We got there 15 minutes late to discover a surge of music and
bodies packed together like the proverbial "sardines in a can" with at
least 20 more pressing to get in. Naively, we believed that the rest of
our family was already somewhere inside holding a table for us, so with
great difficulty we made our way to the back and circled out again without
finding them. We stood around on the sidewalk for a while, walloped by the
music and pushed and shoved aside, but were still convinced on some level
that our favorite lunch spot was the place to eat. It was only after the
others arrived and we all stood surveying the scene, that we realized
Friday night was a whole different story from Saturday at noon. . There was
no food in sight and no evidence that dinner would be served anytime soon.
I don't remember where we ended up eating that night, but for years after
when plans didn't work out quite right, someone was bound to say, "Meet me
at P&G's for dinner this Friday."

Still in town some 25 years later. I love your soup the most.

Subject: FUBAR Daily Adventures at P&G's 1980-84

Starting in our freshman year in New Paltz, September 1980, we discovered the
magic, no, the drunken insanity that is P&G's. Our weekends started on
Wednesday nights, with ONE dollar pitcher night. It would continue on
Thursday night with import night, the only time the sons of working class
folks could afford imported bottled beer. Friday, of course, was the
imfamous Happy Hour. Our class schedules obviously revolved around these
nights. No Friday afternoon courses, or night classes from Wednesday on were
allowed. Should this have interfered with our major, we had to wait for the
next semester to see what class schedules were offered. I shutter to think
how many gallons of beer we deposited in the old porcelin trough. Of course,
many romantic "interludes" were instigated at P&G's. Interestingly enough,
our dates didn't seem to be as attractive the following morning. This is, of
course, putting it politely. The "quality" of our dates also seemed to
change proportionately the further on into the morning our departure from
PIGS was.

Writing this piece now, we are working professionals with families. A few of
us have had setbacks including divorce, the 12 steps, and mental illness. Of
course, this has not impeded us from keeping in touch, and tipping back a few
beers now and then, including right now.

We would like to close by saying thanks for the memories.

Best Regards:

FUBAR

WOW! I was blown away to find a web site for the home of so much New
Paltz history. It would be impossible for me to tell one specific story
for two reasons, first there are so many that I couldn't pick just one
and second, I don't remember much of my times at P&Gs. : -D

I attended New Paltz from 1985 through 1989. P&Gs, the campus and the
town changed so much during that time. People always say that your
college years are the best time of your life and looking back, I have to
agree. As a member of the Delphic of Gamma Sigma Tau fraternity I always
had a brother or Delphic Dahlia little sister who I could depend on day
or night for everything, ranging from a shoulder to cry on, a person to
laugh with or a person to celebrate with. P&Gs was one of the three
places to go to for any of these times. The waterfall and the overlook
just past the hairpin turn in the mountains where the other two.

I remember countless Tuesday nights, Vodka Nights, where my best friend
and I would sit at a table and talk for hours. On Tuesday's the crowds
were small so it was quiet enough to carry on long discussions. She
would always order Vodka and Cranberry and I would always have Vodka
Collins. Mmmmmm Mmmmmmm Good!

On the other end of the spectrum, I remember Fridays where I would show
up at 2pm, at the start of Happy Hour, party and celebrate until 6 or 7;
leave and go to wings and things for "hell wings" and then return to
P&Gs until closing. Those occasions always ended with a trip to the
Diner up-town for breakfast and then to a well deserved sleep.

There is one very important memory that I have to share. There are
certain songs that will be forever linked to P&Gs. To this day, every
time I hear them I remember P&Gs. These songs were anthems of my times
at New Paltz, because of the emotions attached to them and because they
were songs where EVERYONE in the bar would stop whatever they were doing
and start singing the song. The songs are "Piano Man," "Bohemian
Rhapsody," "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" and "American Pie."

Thanks for the Memories,

Jim Butler
Delphic of Gamma Sigma Tau Fraternity

P.S. Since graduating from New Paltz I went on to Ohio Northern
University Law School and earned my Juris Doctor. I now live in San
Diego California where I am a Web and Graphic Designer and PADI Scuba
Instructor.

Dear Guys,
One of the thins I liked best was Stormy's cache of venison in the kitchen,
it went great with the draft beer. What ever happened to George Jane and his
son? Is Ed Beck still alive? Old pal of my father.

item 1- Do you still have large glass pitchers of bud for a dollar on friday afternoons like you use to when I was there last in 1981?

item 2- Do you still have the exitement of having some drunk driving their

vehicle through the front wall becauce they were mad at the bouncer (also

1981). Ah the good old days!

I hope you haven't changed.

Dear P&G's,

As you know, your bar is a well established part of the PI Alpha Nu fraternity tradition. just wanted you to know that the day I went over, I woke up naked and alone in my bed. My last memory is of getting a shot at the bar....and LOVING IT! You guys DEFINE New Paltz! Keep it up!
